Power of veto

The power of veto is usually just an excuse for somebody who is upset with a majority decision that has not gone their way, to stop the process going ahead ..

In other words  -  A spoilt child getting upset ..   Usually a bully ..
This is an outdated way of decision making and should be abandoned everywhere immediately ..

Talk about dumb ..

Magnitude in stars is measured in the reverse direction to true brightness, in other words the scale is backwards and you can end up with the brightest stars having negative values ..

Gradients (on hill climbs for example) are measured in percentage instead of degrees ..
As the value is calculated relative to the tangent, it gives a totally ridiculous value which does not make any sense and has no real life meaning ..
IF they had based it on 90 degrees being 100 percent then the degree of climb of 45 degrees would be 50 percent, 22.5 degrees would be 25 percent and so on, though why anybody would want to do this is unclear ..
Instead we have the ridiculous measurement of 90 degrees of rise being infinite percent, 45 degrees being 100 percent, 25 degrees being just less than 50 percent, and so on ..
It gets even more ridiculous if you work above 45 degrees ..
Just above 63 degrees it becomes 200 percent and just above 84 degrees it becomes 1000 percent ..

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grade_(slope) for some more information ..
Why not just stick to degrees ??

Under-age sex is illegal but under-age beatings through Boxing is legal.
No wonder violence is so prevalent.  We live in a very sick society.
Maybe we should behave more like Bonobos.

Excessive coverage of the English royal wedding is just to ensure the general populace is kept dumbed down.

It is about time text books and teachers stopped perpetuating the lie that electricity flows from the positive of a power supply to the negative.

THIS IS BECOMING A WORRYING PROBLEM.

The electrons (hence the electric current) flow from the NEGATIVE of a power supply to the POSITIVE, AND HAVE ALWAYS DONE SO.

It's good to see you can get organic scotch whisky.
While you're destroying your liver, brain, pancreas and breasts you can at least know you're doing it with an "organically grown" product.

What a ridiculous idea.

Why is it so impossible to buy decaffeinated coffee in 200 gram (or larger) containers ?

Why does nearly every manufacturer of pastries and biscuits insist on adding egg into the ingredients ?

Why do manufacturers still insist on adding animal derived gelatine into food products that already have pectin as a gelling agent ?

Why is it so difficult to buy Australian grown button mushrooms, in tins ?
They all seem to come from China .

Why do they take these items off the shelves ?

- Smith's tomato flavoured crisps,
(they seem to have finally come to their senses and returned these to the shelves)
- Robert Timm's decaffeinated coffee,
- Sweet potato bites,
- Sanitarium Vegi-Roast, (though some supermarkets have put this item back on their shelves)
- Naturally sweetened, low food acid cordials,

- Cordials without sulphites,
- Dried apricots without added sulphur dioxide,

- Cordials without cyclamates, and other artificial sweeteners (just lower the added sugar content),
- Peanut butter made with peanut oil (not generic 'vegetable oil'),
- Pectin, vegetable derived gelatin/e, or vegetable gum based jellies or jelly sweets,
- Carob bars,
- Kraft French Onion cheese spread,
- Velcro (instead of laces) adjusted shoes.

The so called "sport" of boxing (of any type) is too dangerous to maturing brains.
It should be banned for anybody under the age of 18 years.
Professional competitions should only be allowed for people at and above the age of 21 years.
I'm upset to see the medical profession object to boxing by making the smallest whimper they have made yet.

When will they start using peanut oil in peanut butter, instead of generic "vegetable oil" ?

While showing an interview, the camera must always remain focussed on the face (or body as long as it includes the face) of the person being interviewed while they are reacting to a question or statement, and while they are speaking.

The interview is to find out something from or, something about the person being interviewed, not to be a vehicle for the interviewer's ego.

If the interviewer must get his face on the screen then make sure it is only while the interviewer is speaking or asking a question.

How can heavily advert laden glossy magazines and heavily advert laden newspapers, who have already made a fortune before distribution, have the gall to charge the readers to buy them.

How can some magazines (& some puzzle books) say "you can win X amount of dollars on this puzzle”, when the amount stated is the total prize pool for that puzzle, and it is impossible for any one person to win it all.
Surely it is illegal to state such a lie.
Shouldn't they be fined, or at the very least, be told to cease this practice.

Company shares should not exist.
Shares and shareholders help put pressure on companies to create amoral and immoral decisions for the sake of profit.

Funerals are thoughtless, torturous affairs .
Family and friends should be saved from such unnecessary pain and suffering ..
Hadn't they suffered enough when the person was dying or when they found out the person was dead ..
Why make them go through all that pain again, and why create hypocrites out of those who really didn't feel a great deal for the deceased ..

When did television "Sports Breaks" become reclassified as " News Breaks" ?

Channel Seven in Australia especially needs to think this over..

If most computer games allow you to turn off the music track, why is this feature not also available for DVD's and television broadcasts ?

Not everybody likes to have their soundtrack swamped with background music ..
Some people actually like to hear what is being said and hear the background noises, without the whitewash ..

We viewers are mature enough to know what we are feeling, without the swamping of emotional claptrap that usually drowns out the movie or documentary ..
If we want to hear the (and I use the term loosely) mood music then we should have the option of turning it back on ..
In many cases ..  I feel the music is there because of bad direction or lack of interest in the subject in the first place ..

When will film and video directors stop tripping out on Speed and stay with an individual scene from one camera or camera angle, until it has played out ..
And when will directors stop using drunken camera operators ..
Steadycam has been around long enough now for most film directors to know of it ..

While on the subject of film and video directing ..
When will directors learn that it is absolutely imperative that dancers whole bodies and complete dance moves are always shown while they being filmed dancing ..
